Awaking Wonder
How long has it been since the last time you were so amazed at something that all you wanted to do is sit and process your own thoughts?
When was the last time you opened the "eyes of your heart" to the beauty around you?
How long has it been since the last time you wondered, imagined and asked questions about the mysteries of life?
Today, I want to share with you this short video clip of our son, Miguel, who after hearing the story of Noah's Ark, began asking questions.
Initially, I wanted to give him a straight answer just so we can move on finishing the discussion. Thankfully, as CM educator, we were told to never interrupt a child in the middle of his narration and to just let his ideas naturally flow.
In her devotional book, Awaking Wonder, Sally Clarkson said that the opening of the eyes of our heart is faith—seeing with the eyes of our heart combines our mind that acquires truth, our heart that imagines and fills in context and story details, and our soul instructed by the Holy Spirit to understand nuances of light, goodness, and beauty.
You may not find anything special about this short recording at first but if I tell you to carefully observe his body language, how sincere his voice is, I'd bet you'll realize that this boy isn't just asking to get the information he needed but his soul was actually awakened, wondering about who God is and how He is able to do the things He do.
Oftentimes we sleepwalk in this world—mechanically doing one task after the other. We never pause anymore to open the eyes of our hearts and let amazing things take us. We have somehow trained ourselves to stop wondering and imagining, seeing it as a waste of time. And then we complain that we have grown tired of this life and nothing will ever excite us anymore.
So when was the last time you were able to put words altogether to create an idea? Do you still remember that sudden rush of excitement when you did?
